Decadence - Movie Review

Decadence - Movie Review

The copy of Decadence I am reviewing is a foreign movie with English subtitles released in France in 1998 and directed by Jean-Clement Gunter. It would be classified in the genre of horror or thriller films and would definitely would be an R rating in the U.S.For its violent nature and sexual overtones.I love foreign films and therefore decided to watch this movie even though it is not the type of movie I would normally select. It would definitely appeal to the many who enjoy the typical slasher films like Saw or Chainsaw Massacre. The plot of the movie is based on three men who kidnap young males and take them into the mountains to raise them to follow in their cannibalistic escapades. It in particular focuses on a young man named Yves (played by Nicolas Bickel) who struggles to fit in with the group. There is plenty of murder, torture, blood, & violence in addition to rape and deviant sexual behavior to satisfy the thirst of those who enjoy this genre.Knives, metal rods, chains, rope, hatchets, and axes, gave the mountain men plenty to choose from to perform their attacks on unsuspecting victims. The ending of the movie took me a little by surprise and was a welcome departure from the main body of work. This added a lot to the movie in my opinion. To provide this Decadence movie review I watched a version downloaded to my PC and found it of excellent quality in both audio and video. The sound track was above average but I was disappointed in the cinematography feeling it was a bit below average.Unfortunately I felt the acting was a bit substandard for what we would expect and would probably be classified as a B Movie in the U.S.By most critics.I would struggle to give it more than a 6 out of 10 stars but again, this is not a genre I prefer.
